Be Like: Scott & Kelli – The Beginning of Their Home Buying Journey – Part 1 Of 3

The account below is a true story from one of our clients. The next installments of our “Be Like” series will be a 3-part story showcasing Scott and Kelli B. They worked with the Jarrod Peterson Real Estate Group to buy and sell two homes. Up until this point we have chosen to protect our client’s identity by using fictitious names; however, the stories, stats, and emotions have always been real. This time, with permission from our clients, the names are real as well.

Meeting Jarrod

To kick us off, Scott and Kelli met Jarrod Peterson in a unique way. Their first meeting was not as a home buyer or seller. One of Scott’s friends was looking for a house and Scott accompanied him on a showing. Turns out his friend’s realtor was the one and only Jarrod Peterson. They became friends and kept in touch.

Scott and Kelli’s Story

Their home buying journey begins in early 2015. Scott and Kelli were renting a townhome in Hopkins, MN. The couple had a few reasons for wanting to buy a house instead of rent. Financially, they wanted to stop paying rent and start building equity and wealth.

They also knew that eventually they would want to start a family. Family also was their biggest reason to move. Kelli’s family lived in South Minneapolis, while Scott’s family lived in Big Lake. Making the move to the Northwest suburbs would put them perfectly in between.

Home Buying Journey

Having known Jarrod for quite a few years at this point, Scott reached out to him. Scott had kept in touch and even attended a few client events with his friend. The couple was excited to see how Jarrod could help find their first home. Since it was the beginning of the year, the real estate market was starting to ramp up. Jarrod connected the couple with his real estate partner at the time. So began their search for the perfect starter home.

Jarrod’s partner showed them quite a few houses. She also helped explain and walk through the home buying process. However, the searching did not last long. They toured fewer than 10 homes. That is when they found the one. Scott describes it as having “everything we needed.” Kelli explains “The first house we bought, Jarrod was actually the one selling the house. That is how we found out about the house. It worked out because we were able to get our offer out before it went on the market.”

Scott and Kelli both admit that the first home buying journey can be stressful. Having the guidance of a solid real estate team helps a lot. They had gone with a family recommendation for the lender, and it was a little more difficult than they anticipated. However, Jarrod and his team guided them through the whole buying process.

The closing was also a unique situation. On the day of the closing Scott and Kelli found out that their real estate agent was dealing with a severe health issue and would not be available. However, Jarrod jumped right in to help them close. It was a seamless transition from his partner to Jarrod. Scott remarks, “It was a good team and a seamless transaction.”
