This year, Jarrod Peterson is celebrating 20 years in real estate! In honor of this anniversary, we’re sharing a short history of his career, from how he first became involved with the industry to his current status as Maple Grove’s Favorite Realtor. Introduction to the Industry
Prior to working in real estate, Jarrod Peterson had a successful corporate career working for Target, Berlin Packaging, Thomson Prometric, and Capella Education Company. He traveled around the world for his work, managing thousands of employees and gaining valuable experience while visiting new places. But after several successful years in the corporate world, Jarrod desired a change of pace and found himself wishing he could work for himself. That desire laid the groundwork for his eventual transition into real estate, although it would be a few more years until that career change was fully realized.
In 2001, Jarrod and his wife, Linda, were searching for a new home when they fired their realtor after just 38 days before hiring a new one. This experience prompted Jarrod to begin studying the real estate market and industry obsessively, and it also impressed upon him the importance of working with a realtor who understands the market on a deeper level.
In 2005, Jarrod committed himself to helping people with their real estate needs full-time, becoming a licensed realtor and joining Edina Realty’s Maple Grove office.
The First 10 Years in Real Estate
Word of Jarrod’s professionalism and high level of client service quickly spread, and he was soon helping many clients buy and sell their homes. He fell in love with helping first-time home buyers, seeing their smiles, and sharing in their joy as they purchased their own homes. It wasn’t long before Jarrod began receiving awards and recognition for his service in the industry, being named Super Real Estate Agent and Maple Grove’s Favorite Realtor, titles he has held for 19 years and 18 years, respectively.
Jarrod soon developed his own brand, Retro Realtors, together with his business partner, Holli Parenteau.
“Working with Jarrod was so much fun,” Parenteau said. “Meeting clients together, selling their homes quickly during the 2008–2012 financial crisis, and creating long-term relationships was something I will never forget.”
Retro Realtors continued to find success in the industry, and Jarrod sold several homes for high-profile clients, including professional athletes, CEOs, and relocation professionals. His expertise even landed him eight national television appearances on HGTV and DIY Network shows.
Jarrod solidified his reputation as an excellent realtor during the financial crisis years of 2008–2012. During a period when it took most realtors 4–8 months to sell a property, Jarrod was selling his in half that time. His services had never been more in demand.
The Next 10 Years: 2015–Present
As Jarrod grew his reputation, he also grew his team, adding more licensed partners and enabling the Jarrod Peterson Real Estate Group to serve Brainerd, St. Cloud, and the Twin Cities.
“I’m so proud to be part of this team and serve clients the way we do,” said Lynn Chheang, current business partner celebrating 9 years with the practice. “We educate, serve, and celebrate their accomplishments along the way. Jarrod has taught me how to run a real estate business while building a valuable investment portfolio.”
Jarrod’s wife, Linda, joined the practice in 2016, and she continues to serve as business manager. Jarrod and his team also continue to sell with Edina Realty, the region’s dominant real estate brokerage.
Jarrod is committed to serving his clients to the best of his abilities and is always looking for new ways to do so. For example, he stopped taking spring break vacations in recent years, realizing that the spring market is too vital to his clients and that he needed to be present locally to best serve them.
Throughout his time in real estate, Jarrod has prioritized giving back to his community, contributing more than $246,000 to the communities he serves. He also joined the board of directors at Park Nicollet Foundation, raising more than $1 million for community health initiatives.
Why Jarrod Loves Real Estate
Jarrod loves helping people with their real estate needs and has had the opportunity to do so for more than 1,800 clients, families, and new friends during his 20 years in the industry. He appreciates seeing their happiness and satisfaction when their needs are met. And while real estate comes with its own set of challenges to face and changes to keep up with, celebrating with his clients when a deal is closed is worth every minute of hard work.
“We met Jarrod through the internet, when our favorite real estate agent was no longer selling,” said Roberta Horn, an 11-time client of Jarrod’s. “Since that time, we have referred him friends, families, and a rental property to sell, in addition to five-plus of our own transactions. He is honest, ethical, and a lot of fun to work with. We wouldn’t use anyone else.”
